Details: Your home in Kandersteg will be in a rustic farmhouse Chalet at the foot of the Bire Mountain. It is the home of Elizabeth and Heinz Nagel–Hari. Elizabeth grew up in this home, which was a working farm in her youth. They raised sheep and cows. There are three flats. Heinz (97) and Elizabeth (87) still occupy the middle flat. Goats live next to the bottom flat. Each flat has a bathroom with shower, kitchen and living room. Bedrooms are small, all beds are single. However, double beds can be arranged. Bedding and hand towels are provided. Alternate accommodation can be arranged for those wishing a hotel environment. There are several wonderful family run hotels in the village.
Helicopter insurance is necessary for hiking in the mountains. It insures a lift off the mountain should you become injured or ill while hiking out of reach of a vehicle. This insurance cost is covered in your package price.
Your personal medical insurance, which is your responsibility, will cover other medical fees while outside your home country. It is imperative that you have full medical coverage and that you keep insurance contact information with you at all times when you are hiking or travelling. Any pre existing conditions that you may have must be made known to me before you travel, including all allergies, medicines, etc. Contact names must be provided to me once we are in Switzerland.
It is usual that meals are prepared by everyone, in turn and shared by all. You will have a choice, of course, to eat out in one of the many restaurants in the village, as well. If you are choosing to share the meal preparation and “eating in”, a $100 Sf food deposit is made upon arrival at the chalet. This usually lasts for one week. Food lists are drawn up, depending on your wishes and food is purchased for a few days at a time. We must take into consideration food allergies, etc. Any personal food desires (treats) are your own responsibility. Any alcoholic beverages are at your own cost. Preparing food together is usually a great way to get to know each other and everyone who is not cooking loves the excitement of the delights that await them!
This tour will be a moderate to challenging hiking tour, exploring varied terrain combined with train travel to various cultural areas of Switzerland. At each new place we explore, there will be an opportunity to walk, experience the varied foods of the area and enjoy the amazing scenery.
Hikes will combine easy, moderate and lots of opportunity to try more challenging terrain. Moderate means that the trails, although uphill in many cases, will not be too steep or narrow. Distances will vary depending on the day and your fitness levels. Weather is always a factor when hiking in the mountains so I will always make the call whether we continue and which routes we will take on any given day. Your safety always comes first!
As you prepare for this tour, it is a good idea to build your stamina so that you can walk longer distances at a fair pace. Carrying a loaded pack as you train will help build your upper body strength, needed for carrying your day pack with necessarysupplies daily. Sometimes hikes will be a shorter distance with steeper uphill, others, the distance may be greater but on a more moderate grade. It is important that anyone interested and booking this tour, keep in close communication with me regarding their training. I always respond to any questions that you may have. It is best for everyone, if you are prepared. Sharing Switzerland on foot is what Spirit Adventure does best. Please join us.
