When is the best time of year for me to come to Nova Scotia to hike?
Personally, I think the best time is the fall. The days are warm and sunny, the nights, cool for sleeping. The leaves are brilliant in color and the mosquitos have gone!

What do we eat while we are on this hiking tour?
Guests share accommodation in a chalet where food is communally made. Anyone wanting to eat separately or who wishes to eat out in the village are certainly welcome to do so. Prices for food, when eating at the chalet generally costs approxiamately $100/week. Eating out in Switzerland can be costly but we do make a point of supporting the local restaurants and eat out at least once/week.

| Moscow, Russia |
What is the currency in Russia?
Russian rubles. There are plenty of bank machines where debit cards can be used to withdraw rubles. It is best to do it this way as the exchange rate changes frequently. Another option is to bring US $ and change these at Currency windows. This is probably a good idea for the first couple of days until you are more familiar with where the banking ATM's are located.

Will I be safe in Russia?
As in any large city, there are precautions that should be taken. The tour group will be fully guided and we will be watching out for your safety. However, if you do venture out alone, you will be encouraged not to be out later than midnight and not to travel late at night on the subway line. There is always safety in numbers. As for political or internal problems in the country, the Canadian Embassy is excellent in support and keeping our people informed. To date, there have been absolutely no problems in this way.
