Acadian Dykes Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Distance: approximately 20 km. Trailhead begins at Port Williams, winds through the town of Wolfville and ends in Grand Pre, “Great Meadow”. The Acadians built these dykes to hold back the powerful tides of the Minas Basin, producing the agricultural heartland of Nova Scotia. The walk, on hard packed dykeland offers views of the Minas Basin, its ever-changing face, seabirds and rich farmland. The hike ends in Grand Pre where the visitors’ center provides information about the life of the Acadians and their expulsion in 1755.
